The End Of Human Wisdom

Our study in the book continues with Exodus 18 with Pastor Ray's focus on Moses' father-in-law Jethro (or Reuel). Human wisdom is a scourge to the household of God and is a great temptation as evidenced by the story of Moses. We must renounce all human wisdom that so easily rises up and although it's utterly foolish, it appears quite the opposite.

There are two simple lessons to hear and apply, near the end of the broadcast. I'll leave you with a quote from Evangelist in Pilgrim's Progress.

“The man that met you is named Mr. Worldly-Wiseman, and he is well named because he loves only the doctrine of this world (he always goes to the town of Morality to attend church). He loves that doctrine best because it keeps him away from the cross.

Soldiering On Is your church soldiering on without th... Is your church soldiering on without the Holy Spirit, perhaps while praying for revival? This will never produce revival. We must take the position, "Either the Holy Spirit comes, or the church closes. And it's over." How do you know if you're soldiering on? When your church stops confession and repentance. Instead, the church fills up broken cisterns with washed up doctrine, programs and Bible studies, casualness, and happy praise and worship. As a result, the church makes no impact on the culture. Christians remain carnal and unsanctified, and the lost unsaved. This isn't God's heart for the church. Before, the church had revivals. Refreshings of the Holy Spirit brought general change to entire cities and nations. Criminal activities stopped, bars closed, broken families made peace, and people paid back old debts.
