How to Overcome Sin

Many Christians today live in a miserable state of bondage to sin. They pray and resolve to do better. They suppress sinful urges and desires. And they think this is the normal Christian life. But they never overcome sin. So what are we to do? How do we overcome sin?

First, we must recognize that all sin flows out of a voluntary preference, or state of commitment, to please ourselves. All outward actions, motives, and intentions flow out of this selfishness. Can we suppress selfishness by resolution? Certainly not.

Second, we must see that love is the fulfillment of the law. Is love produced by resolution? No. We may abstain from gratifying a sinful desire, but that doesn't produce the love of God in the heart.

The Bible clearly states that we overcome sin by faith in Jesus Christ. In very practical terms, this means that you make a commitment to Jesus. This commitment is that you will give all of your love and affection to him. When you open the door of your heart to Jesus this way, His Spirit comes and takes residence in you. This is conversion. Now, the indwelling Christ will take up your whole soul. He will shed the love of God abroad in your heart. He will bring your heart in line with his, and regulate all of your desires.

Thus, it is by faith in Jesus Christ that we receive the Holy Spirit as an inward power who stimulates and directs our activity. God's purifying influence is received into the very center of our being.

If you haven't made the choice to love Jesus first and foremost--more than even your own life--will you do so now? You will then receive the Holy Spirit, and overcome all sin!

If you liked this message and want to learn more about the indwelling Christ, listen to our recent broadcast, "Christ in You."

This broadcast was inspired by Charles Finney's lecture, "How to Overcome Sin."

Soldiering On

Soldiering On Is your church soldiering on without th... Is your church soldiering on without the Holy Spirit, perhaps while praying for revival? This will never produce revival. We must take the position, "Either the Holy Spirit comes, or the church closes. And it's over." How do you know if you're soldiering on? When your church stops confession and repentance. Instead, the church fills up broken cisterns with washed up doctrine, programs and Bible studies, casualness, and happy praise and worship. As a result, the church makes no impact on the culture. Christians remain carnal and unsanctified, and the lost unsaved. This isn't God's heart for the church. Before, the church had revivals. Refreshings of the Holy Spirit brought general change to entire cities and nations. Criminal activities stopped, bars closed, broken families made peace, and people paid back old debts. But, the modern church is so used to soldiering on that we don't even...

The Terrifying Work of Demons

The Terrifying Work of Demons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDqcrA... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDqcrAuPfYA Pastor Ray delves into the spirit world to uncover the terrifying work of demons. We must know and engage in this battle and trust Jesus to fully deliver us. He uses the story of the demoniac in Mark Chapter 5 to uncover the enemy's game plan for you and me. Have you been set free by the blood of Jesus, or are you still enslaved? The battle belongs to the Lord, but we must engage ourselves in this battle through confession, repentance and trust in Jesus. The heart of Jesus is victory against every demonic power that would come against you. https://www.nationalprayerchapel.com/?p=41536&feed_id=1015

The END Is Near!

The END Is Near! https://youtu.be/yJbPzNVzYk4 We've... https://youtu.be/yJbPzNVzYk4 We've made the erroneous assumption that all are saved, meaning that there's nothing between the hearts of the congregants and Jesus. This wicked lie has vaccinated many against the convicting arrows of the Holy Spirit and kept many in their iniquities, where they never had to deal with their wicked ways before a holy God. We also have our modern wicked culture, which is intertwined with the church leaving us in a quagmire. Pastor Ray walks us through many of the blocks to desperate prayer, which must be confronted head on. Are you willing to deal with anything between your heart and the heart of Jesus? His desire is to set you free. Many who call themselves Christians because of their pride will block themselves out, as they've been unwilling to humble themselves before God and their fellow man. What will you do, dear one? https://nationalprayerchapel.com/?p=37625...
