Through the Red Sea Into the Desert

Through the Red Sea Into the Desert What are the absolute essentials for a ...

What are the absolute essentials for a healthy, growing relationship with Jesus? First, you need adequate doctrine to understand your need for salvation. Second, you must set the heart in the right direction--to follow Jesus. And third, you must renounce your sins. You come to a place where you say, "I'm through with sin. God, teach me your ways!"

Next, the Holy Spirit will lead you into the desert. Scripture pictures this with Moses and the children of Israel crossing the Red Sea, then entering the wilderness.

This time of testing exposes what's truly in your heart. Do you still long for Egypt? In our case as Americans, do you still long for entertainment, a prosperous lifestyle, and life on easy street? Or did you really commit to do and suffer all the will of God?

So what's really at stake here? Heaven and hell! As the Bible says, "With most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did" (1 Corinthians 10:5).

Will you learn from this example, and go all the way through with Jesus?

We must take the position, "Either the Holy Spirit comes, or the church closes. And it's over." How do you know if you're soldiering on? When your church stops confession and repentance. Instead, the church fills up broken cisterns with washed up doctrine, programs and Bible studies, casualness, and happy praise and worship. As a result, the church makes no impact on the culture. Christians remain carnal and unsanctified, and the lost unsaved. This isn't God's heart for the church. Before, the church had revivals. Refreshings of the Holy Spirit brought general change to entire cities and nations. Criminal activities stopped, bars closed, broken families made peace, and people paid back old debts. But, the modern church is so used to soldiering on that we don't even...
