As we're praying through things, it's helpful to distinguish between infirmities and sin. The distinction is very important as infirmities are not sin.

I've pulled this table below from a wonderful book entitled "The Fallacy of the "Sinning Christian" by a dear brother, Pastor and theologian Malcolm Lavender who has gone on to his reward.

(I added some emphasis to the text not present in the book, i.e. underline and bold.)

Infirmities are involuntary

Sin is a choice involving rebellion

Infirmities bring embarrassment and humiliation

Sin Produces death, guilt, and condemnation

Infirmities do not interrupt communion with God

Sin breaks fellowship with God

We must deny ourselves take up our cross and be crucified with Jesus. It's a losing or forfeiting of our dreams and desires, everything to follow Jesus. We must take the position, "Either the Holy Spirit comes, or the church closes. And it's over." How do you know if you're soldiering on? When your church stops confession and repentance. Instead, the church fills up broken cisterns with washed up doctrine, programs and Bible studies, casualness, and happy praise and worship. As a result, the church makes no impact on the culture. Christians remain carnal and unsanctified, and the lost unsaved. This isn't God's heart for the church. Before, the church had revivals. Refreshings of the Holy Spirit brought general change to entire cities and nations. Criminal activities stopped, bars closed, broken families made peace, and people paid back old debts. But, the modern church is so used to soldiering on that we don't even...
